BAE reportedly struggled to deliver prototypes on time due to issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic. GDLS beat BAE Systems to get the contract for the new vehicle. The Army’s long-term goal is to procure more than 504 MPFs by 2035, while these vehicles are expected to remain in their inventory and in service for at least 30 years. The total life cycle cost of the program is reportedly $17 billion, and that includes maintenance, military buildup, and personnel. According to Defense News, at least eight of the 12 prototypes used during competitive evaluation will be retrofitted for force use. GDLS will initially only supply 26 vehicles, but the Army can purchase 70 more over the course of inexpensive initial production. ![]()
